Proper part identification is an important concern in the manufacturing industry. Precision machine parts are complex and can have various levels of revisions. The time and effort wasted in trying to locate unmarked items is a hidden profit drainer. The identification process is crucial, but, at the same time, so confusing that most manufacturers don’t place the proper emphasis on it at the end of their manufacturing process.
Midlantic Precision Inc. offers various levels of part identification to help our customers. “Bag, Tag & Label” is the last step in our manufacturing process, differentiating us from other precision manufactures in our market. When you receive our product, we want it to be a good experience. That is why we created “Bag, Tag & Label”! All items leaving our facility are clearly identified for your receiving, inspection, and inventory departments. MLP wants to make the storing and the locating of these high value items as seamless as possible. We offer several options to bring this value to you. Each method of identification has its own benefits and appropriate application. As these options are detailed for you below, we hope it will help you to select the level of parts identification which best meets your needs.
Metal stamping is basic and limited only by the amount of content and the size of the part. A minimal amount of metal deformation must be considered. A permanent mark is helpful for future reference.
Wire tag is good for assemblies or large parts. A significant amount information can be added to the paper tag.
Heat sealed plastic bags with labels offer good part protection for long term storage and are good for small parts packaged as lots, or medium sized parts that can fit in (up to) an 8’’ wide tube of virtually any length. A significant amount information can be added to the label(s).
Plastic labeler tape works well on non-oiled parts made from stainless, or on painted surfaces. It sticks to the surface for semi-permanent identification. A significant amount of information can be added to the label proportional to the length of the tape and the size of the part. Bar coding and color are optional.
CNC machine engraving creates a permanent number for lasting part identification of key components. This is normally done during the CNC milling cycle allowing for less handling of the part. Simple part numbering is typical. Additional information can be included at a reasonable cost. This can be done on parts as large as 25’’ x 50’’ in size.
Laser engraving creates a permanent mark of virtually any configuration on a wide range of materials, and is great for individual serialization of high-end precision machined items. Bar codes and QR codes with links to your website are optional and can provide the added bonus of including marketing information along with the part identification on each item. A significant amount of documentation information can be added to the 100mm x 100mm window of marking area. This works best for medium sized parts of a 12” x 12” size range. It is great for marking items with very precise lettering detail. This is an elite marking method for an elite customer class who want repeat sales for years to come as a result of clear product traceability.
Some of these “Bag, Tag & Label” options can be combined to maximize your particular application needs.
